From the air, the beaches, reefs, lagoons, and islets take on a whole new dimension. It is also a fantastic opportunity to bring back truly unique photos of Guadeloupe—far removed from the traditional snapshots taken from the beach.

A discovery flight departing from Saint-François

Flights depart from the Saint-François airfield, located right next to the golf course and the lagoon.

After meeting your pilot and receiving the necessary briefing, you board the plane for your discovery flight over Guadeloupe.

And the spectacle begins almost immediately.

The Saint-François Flying Club notes that takeoff offers an immediate view of the golf course and the magnificent Saint-François lagoon. Depending on the route chosen with the pilot, the flight may then continue towards Pointe des Châteaux, Petite-Terre, or La Désirade. It is also possible to fly along part of the coast towards Sainte-Anne and the islet of Le Gosier.

This is certainly one of the most spectacular ways to understand why Guadeloupe is nicknamed the “Butterfly Island”.

Discover Guadeloupe’s lagoons from the sky

From the ground, the turquoise waters of Grande-Terre are already magnificent.

From a plane, the landscape becomes even more impressive.

Varying water depths create color gradients ranging from deep blue to almost translucent turquoise. Coral reefs become clearly visible, and light-colored sandy beaches stand out between the ocean and the tropical vegetation.

The Saint-François lagoon offers a spectacular first glimpse right from takeoff.

Then, depending on the chosen route and the day’s conditions, you can discover other iconic landscapes of the archipelago.

Petite-Terre, Pointe des Châteaux, and La Désirade from the air

Among the most impressive landscapes to see during a flight over Guadeloupe, Petite-Terre obviously holds a special place.

Viewed from the sky, this reserve, surrounded by turquoise waters, reveals the full beauty of its lagoon and reefs.

The Pointe des Châteaux also offers a spectacle completely different from what is seen from the land-based trail. The cliffs, beaches, and rock formations at the tip of Grande-Terre take on their full scale when viewed from the air.

Finally, La Désirade, located off the coast of Pointe des Châteaux, completes this exceptional panorama of the eastern archipelago.

The exact flight path is determined in consultation with the pilot and depends, among other factors, on weather conditions. The flying club notes that these areas are among the destinations that can be viewed during flights departing from Saint-François.
